Meeting of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland
From April 10 to 12, 2014 more than one hundred rectors of Polish higher education institutions gathered at the Jagiellonian University to take part in the Presidium session and the Plenary Session of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP).
The meeting of the Presidium of CRASP was devoted to the systemic cooperation between Polish higher education institutions and rectors' conferences from Germany and France within the framework of the Weimar Triangle, the collaboration with the Portuguese Universities Rectors' Council, as well as the institutions from Ukraine and a number of other states, including Brazil and Turkey. Other issues discussed during the session included the vision of education quality assurance system at Polish higher education institutions (evaluation and accreditation) as well as the issues related to the collaboration between business and academia.
The topics addressed at the Plenary Session pertained to the operational programmes 2014-2020 and the problems related to the amendments to the Law on Higher Education, with special focus on the regulations regarding scholars' intellectual property rights and open science.
The meeting on April 11 was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Donald Tusk, and the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska. In his address, the Prime Minister stressed the potential of Polish higher education institutions and the role they have played in the modernisation of the country. He also discussed some vital issues related to the funding of higher education in Poland.
